Hip hop and grime rapper Dave has won the award for Best Contemporary Song, which was co-written by songwriter and producer Fraser T. Smith.
This was the 63rd ceremony for the Ivor Novello Awards, which celebrates the best British and Irish composers and songwriters.
The slow, seven-minute track discusses everything that’s wrong with politics from Grenfell to overseas bombings and is rife with frustration and despair. Being only 19 years old when writing the track, Dave has been greatly commended for his use of platform and activeness. This recognition has been taken a step further as he won this prestigious award last week, up against Stormzy – one of the biggest names in grime – and electronic artist Elderbrook.
Dave showed his appreciation on Instagram, while also noting how he was coincidentally wearing the same outfit he wore in the video.
This huge hit is guaranteed to be on his setlist at RiZE this August, so don’t miss out!
