RnB superstar Rita Ora has been nominated for awards in two categories at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, and it’s all down to your vote!
The ‘Girls’ singer has been nominated for ‘Best Dance Video’ and ‘Best Visual Effects’ for her collaboration with the late EDM sensation Avicii ‘Lonely Together’. The video depicts a couple wandering round in a world paused in time, from a bar to a fairground and a theatre. Creative both metaphorically and artistically, ‘Lovely Together’ shows that no matter how freed they are by the limitless time, cracks in their relationship can still show. The time freeze effect highlights director Levan Tsikurishvili’s visionary style; perfected down to the very last detail as a ballerina and tiny pieces of popcorn can be seen suspended in thin air while fire and a huge bubble are edited in so naturally you’d never guess how it’d been done.
The Swedish director was a close friend of the award-winning DJ and producer, and also worked on his lyric video series for the tracks on his fourth EP Avīci (01), as well as his 2017 documentary Avicii: True Stories. ‘Lonely Together’ was released on 11th August 2017, with the accompanying video following a month later. The track itself is now certified Platinum in the UK, Canada and Italy.
The VMAs will be aired live on MTV on 20th August. To vote for Rita Ora and Avicii’s cinematic piece, click here.
